MARINE CORPS ULTIMATE CHALLENGE MUD RUN 9/20/2008

I was asked by several guys in the ward to run the USMC MUD RUN with them this past Saturday. I had 2 weeks to prepare as best I could. Unfortunately one of the guys was unable to run with us because he was deployed over to the middle east, he is in the Air Force. So we ran as a 2-man team. It was a blast! I had a great time, even though I feel like I held up my teammate. I felt like I was doing pretty good until we got a point where one of the Marines or volunteers on the course yelled out "Good job, keep going, your half-way done"! Then about 15-20 minutes later another yelled out, "great job, your almost done, only 1/2 mile left"! Then 5-10 minutes later another yelled out "only 1/2 mile left, keep going"! I thought to myself, "these guys are playing games with us, if I hear one more guy say 1/2 mile left I'm going to tackle him and throw him in one of these big mud pits! We ended up doing pretty good. If it weren't for me, Steve my teammate would have finished a couple minutes faster. But we finished with the 105th best time out of over 1100 teams. So top 10% isn't too bad. I'm glad I did it, it was fun! It also has motivated me to get into better shape. There were several couples from our ward that did it as well and it was fun to see them running, sliding and sloshing through the mud. I might get some pictures posted on here later. If you want to read the description of the course and see some of the pictures from last years Mud Run here is the link. Hopefully they will post some of the pictures from this years soon. http://www.usmcmudrun.net/course.html

Yeah!! Austin's First Birthday!!

Austin turned ONE year old today! He is getting so big. Kim of course made a cake last night and had to decorate it all fancy. Since he dosen't do much talking that we can understand yet, there was no cake request so Kim just decided to make him a TRAIN CAKE. It looked pretty cool. Caleb sure was excited. We opened a couple of presents and had some cake and ice cream. I was really hoping that Austin would go to town on his cake and ice cream like all 1 year olds normally do, but he ate so much dinner he was pretty full. He eats like a horse. He eats almost everything we give him and then everything Caleb gives him. Austin had a great day today and enjoyed opening his gifts so that Caleb could play with them. Last night Caleb said, "I can't wait for Austin's birthday party, so I can share his toys with him". Here are a couple pictures. Enjoy.

Pictures of Caleb

We just put Caleb's picture on the computer today, so I thought we would post a couple to the blog. These boys get so jealous of each other, sometimes it's funny!

It's been a while!

Yes, we have been very bad about updating our blog. So here is a little update. Everything is going well with the Dwiggins' Family. Caleb and Austin continue to get bigger and bigger. Caleb is Mommy and Daddy's little helper. He's almost too much help with Austin, to the point where Austin get's mad at him. We think Austin is going to be bigger than Caleb, so it's only a matter of time before Austin shows Caleb enough is enough. Austin is becoming more independent everyday. He is now walking all over the place. It's so fun watching him grow. Kim and I continue to stay busy. Kim is still the Primary Secretary and I am the Young Men's President. So our callings in church keep us busy as well.
I'm sure you all have been watching the news recently about all the hurricanes out here on the East Coast. Fortunately we have had no problems at all and didn't even get any rain from Hanna. We thought we were going to get some heavy winds and rain, but got nothing.
I am currently trying to get into shape for the United States Marine Mud Run on September 20th. It is a 4.2 mile obstacle course that is done in teams of 4. I was asked just the other day by 2 guys in the ward if I was interested in joining their team. I didn't hesitate to say yes, but am now having second thoughts. One of the guys just finished training and completed a triathalon and the other guy runs like 5-10 miles a day. And we are supposed to stay together during the entire course! So needless to say I have been trying to get into better shape very quickly. They asked me on Wednesday night, so Thursday I went to the gym for the first time in maybe 6 months or more and ran 2.5 miles in 21 minutes. Then yesterday (Friday) I ran 5 miles in just under 45 minutes. SO, now today I am walking around the house like penguin. I can barely walk down the stairs! HAHA.
We went and got some pictures of Caleb and Austin both individually and together, so we will try and post some on here later.
